Dodgers Offense Stifled by Yu Darvish in Extra Innings Loss to San Diego
The Dodgers and Padres squared off for the second of their 19 matchups on Saturday night. It was quite the departure from LA’s decisive 6-1 win from the night before. Padres starter Yu Darvish absolutely dominated the Dodgers offense.
The onetime Dodgers pitcher allowed zero runs and just one hit in six innings of work while striking out seven. At one point, Darvish had retired 10 straight Dodgers hitters.
Opposing Darvish was Dodgers lefty Tyler Anderson in his first start of the season for LA. Anderson gave up two earned runs in 4.2 IP including a solo shot to Jake Cronenworth in the third inning.
For most of the game, the Dodgers were down for the count. They entered the eighth inning trailing 2-0 and finally got the offense rolling. Chris Taylor reached base on an infield single with Gavin Lux following suit with a single of his own. They both scored on a two-out Trea Turner double to left field that narrowly missed left fielder Jurickson Profar’s glove to tie the game 2-2.
Can't win 'em all, but not jumping on Darvish in the 2nd changed the game. Mookie had a chance to do damage and couldn't come through. LA not squaring up anything for most of the night. Anderson gave them a chance to win and the pen got it done. Off night for the bats. #Dodgers

Brusdar Garterol and Daniel Hudson held the Padres scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings to help push the game to extras. In a curious decision with the inherited runner rule in play, manager Dave Roberts decided to have Chris Taylor tag up from second on a routine flyout. Taylor was tagged out at third and it wasn’t all that close. With two outs in the tenth, Mookie Betts struck out for the fourth time in the game to end the inning.
The Padres were a little more judicious with how they handled their runner on second. Trent Grisham sacrifice bunted CJ Abrams over to third and then Austin Nola hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to down the Dodgers 3-2.
The Dodgers-Padres rubber match begins at 1:10PM tomorrow as Clayton Kershaw takes on Sean Manaea.
