Dodgers Offseason: At Least One Person is Happy About the Justin Turner News

This weekend was a bummer for L.A. fans. Justin Turner, who grew up rooting for the Dodgers and spent the last nine seasons knocking the ball all over Dodger Stadium, signed a two-year deal to play with the Red Sox after Los Angeles signed JD Martinez to be their primary designated hitter.

It has to be a bittersweet time for Turner, too, as he has loved playing for the Dodgers but now gets a very nice contract to go play pepper off the Green Monster at Fenway Park. But one person it’s not bitter for at all, just sweet, is JT’s former teammate who is now his teammate once again, Kiké Hernandez.

Waiting for JT in Boston are four of his former teammates, including Hernandez, Chris Martin, Alex Verdugo, and Kenley Jansen. It’s the second time in the last six years Jansen and Turner signed with the same team in the same offseason — back in 2016, they decided together at Jansen’s wedding to both come back to the Dodgers.

Kiké and JT were teammates for six years in L.A., with Hernandez coming over in the Dee Gordon trade a year after Turner signed with the Dodgers. Together, they won six NL West titles and the 2020 World Series, after which Hernandez departed for Boston.

We wish JT was still with us in Los Angeles, but it makes us feel a little bit better that he’s among friends in Boston.
