Dodgers Reliever to Resume Throwing Off Mound
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Brusdal Graterol told reporters he feels “great” and will begin throwing off a mound Tuesday. Graterol reported feeling hip discomfort during his first spring training appearance on March 2, which caused his mechanics to get out of whack and led to shoulder soreness.
The news is promising for the Dodgers, who have used a variety of relievers so far this season. Joe Kelly, Ryan Brasier, and Daniel Hudson each have at least one hold on their stat line, while Ryan Yarbrough, Evan Phillips, and Hudson each have at least one save.
Graterol did not travel with the team to South Korea for the season-opening series against the San Diego Padres in Seoul and has been working diligently to make his 2024 debut. The right-hander was arguably the best reliever in the Dodgers’ bullpen last season, with a 1.20 ERA in 68 appearances.
The Dodgers have also been missing Blake Treinen, who has been out with a bruised lung since getting hit with a comebacker in March. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters on March 28 that Treinen was still “a ways away” from pitching for the Dodgers, which swelled the hope around Graterol coming back sooner rather than later.
Nabil Crismatt got his opportunity in the bullpen to fill the void left by Graterol and pitched well. He earned a win with two shutout innings and three strikeouts. Los Angeles called up Dinelson Lamet on Monday and designated Crismatt for assignment.
Once Graterol is officially healthy and given the green light to pitch in games, the Dodgers can align their more like how they drew it up this off-season.
