Dodgers Roster News: Clayton Kershaw Activated from Bereavement List

Clayton Kershaw rejoins the active roster as the Dodgers gear up for three games in Tampa Bay. Kersh had been on bereavement leave while attending his mother’s funeral back home in Texas. To make room for him on the active roster, LA optioned RHP Tayler Scott back to Triple-A (they actually did that on Thursday).

With the announcement made on Friday morning, Kershaw is set to face the Rays and Tyler Glasnow for the first time since game 5 of the 2020 World Series. Clayton tossed 5.2 innings in that game, allowing 2 runs in the win.

Kershaw has struggled over his last few starts but has been good overall this season. The long-time Dodger is 6-4 with a 2.98 ERA through 10 starts.

The 30-year-old Scott didn’t appear in a game while up with the Dodgers. He’s done well at the AAA level for LA this year, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.08 ERA over 16.2 innings pitched. In parts of two seasons pitching at the big league level, the right-hander has struggled to an 11.12 ERA over 21 games with the Mariners, Orioles, and Padres.

Much Needed Day Off

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts navigated the first two games against the Braves with urgency and helped LA take two of three in Atlanta. It did come at a cost, however, as the bullpen was worked hard, continuing a trend necessitated by less than ideal performances out of the starting rotation. With the off day on Thursday, the bullpen was able to get a much needed breather before the team continues a grueling stretch on the calendar.

After three games in Tampa, the Dodgers fly across the country on Sunday to immediately welcome the Washinton National in LA on Monday night. Following another off day next Thursday, the New York Yankees face the Dodgers for three games at Dodger Stadium.
