Dodgers Roster News: LA Sends Gavin Stone, Jake Reed, Adam Kolarek Down to Minors

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a few more spring training cuts on Tuesday, sending three pitchers down to minor league camp. Among them were LHP Adam Kolarek, RHP Jake Reed and, the one that’s not going to make people very happy, RHP Gavin Stone.

Kolarek and Reed are going to start the season in Triple-A, and provide some minor league depth for the squad. Stone, however, is in a different position. While he’s also going to start the year in Triple-A, he’s far from just depth for the team. Stone is going to be a key piece of this team’s future, and will likely get an opportunity to debut at some point this season.

The young right-hander was sensational this spring for the Dodgers, making four appearances, and pitching 6.2 scoreless innings with an unbelievable 14 strikeouts. That’s an incredible 18.9 K/9 for Stone this spring.

He has no MLB experience at this point in his career, and only made six appearances at Triple-A last year. He’s still just 24 years old, so there’s no reason to rush him up to the majors. He’s definitely going to make his debut at some point in 2023, but it’s not going to be on opening day — and that’s okay.

Stone will continue to improve in the minor leagues with consistent playing time, and will likely take the league by storm whenever he comes up this season.

Make sure to watch our very own Doug McKain’s interview with Stone from spring training — he’s a special talent who had a lot of great things to say. You can watch it at the top of this article, or with this link right here.
