Dodgers Roster News: Miguel Vargas Sent Down to Minor Leagues
As expected, the Dodgers have sent struggling rookie infielder Miguel Vargas down to the minor league. Manager Dave Roberts hinted at a move coming as the first half of the season wrapped up for LA. While the timing of the transaction is somewhat surprising, the move in and of itself is not.
Jack Harris of the LA Times was among those to report the move.

What was supposed to be Vargas’s breakout season has been a disappointment, to say the least. In 81 games, the 23-year-old has hit .195 with 7 home runs and 32 runs batted in. His playing time has been significantly reduced in recent weeks while riding a miserable 5-63 stretch (.079) in his last 23 games (18 starts).
The move is hardly a firm goodbye but more of a see when we see you for the Dodgers. With Vargas optioned to Triple-A, he’ll have an opportunity to get his swing and, more importantly, confidence back on track away from the bright lights of the big leagues.
The Dodgers are off until Friday but a corresponding roster move is expected before then to welcome Chris Taylor back from the injured list.
Additional Roster Moves
On top of the Vargas option, the Dodgers also announced that reliever Bryan Hudson was also optioned back to AAA and RHP Yency Almonte was reinstated from the paternity list after welcoming his first child with wife Tori earlier this week.
