Dodgers Rumors: Giants Making Serious Push for Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Right now, the Dodgers remain the favorites to land two-way superstar free agent Shohei Ohtani, but there are plenty of teams positioning themselves to make an aggressive run at him. Ohtani has long been a desire of the Dodgers, and they seem determined to finally get him into the organization.

Landing Ohtani would be the biggest singing for this franchise in history, and it would mark a long approach to get him. He is expected to receive the largest contract in baseball history, making LA one of the few teams that can afford him.

In addition to Ohtani, the Dodgers are heavily eyeing Japanese pitching sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto to headline their starting rotation. Some around the league believe that the Dodgers can get both Yamamoto and Ohtani, which would be quite the haul this offseason.

But it seems that one team may be serious suitors to stop that from happening, and it just so happens to be the rival San Francisco Giants. MLB insider Jon Morosi is reporting that the Giants are making a big push to land either Ohtani or Yamamoto this winter.

San Francisco has been trying to land a superstar for some time now but hasn’t had any luck. They view this offseason as a great chance to finally make it happen, but it remains to be seen if it will.

While they have been reported to be the ones likely to offer the most money to Ohtani, money isn’t everything to him. He wants to be on a winning team, and right now, the Giants don’t fit that bill.

As for Yamamoto, the most talked about teams for him have been the Dodgers and the two New York squads. But he reportedly prefers the West Coast, so the Giants could be in play there, as well.

It would be a shame if either player went up north to join the Giants. Hopefully, both come to Los Angeles, and the Dodgers can start building a true super team.

  1. Based on how the last few seasons have gone, I’m honestly expecting the FO to choke this and for Ohtani to end up in San Francisco.
