Dodgers Rumors: Insider Expects Yency Almonte to Return to LA Bullpen in 2024

With only five players signed through the 2024 season, the Dodgers have a lot of decisions to make regarding how they want to fill out the rest of the roster. None of the five aforementioned players come out of the bullpen, so the organization has their work cut out for them there.

J.P. Hoornstra of the O.C. Register believes the club could bring back one of its more valuable middle relievers.

Yency Almonte: A down year (5.06 ERA) ended early because of a knee injury. That raises the possibility that Almonte will be non-tendered, but the prediction here is he gets another chance.

29-year-old Yency Almonte has two years left of team control as he enters this offseason. The right-handed reliever signed with the Dodgers in the Spring of 2022 for a minor league deal. Since being brought up in 2022 he made himself one of the more valuable middle-relievers for the club. In his two years with LA, he has pitched 83.1 innings with a 3.35 ERA and 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings.

A knee injury cut short Almonte’s 2023 season, a season of ups and downs for the reliever. Entering the month of June he had a meager 7.04 ERA after a few outings of giving up more than three runs. In his next 25 appearances, he would only allow nine earned runs and he struck out 29 batters lowering his season ERA a full 2 points to a 5.06.

If he can stay healthy moving forward, Almonte will prove to continue to be a valuable asset for a club with World Series aspirations.
