The Future is Bright for the LA Dodgers and Here are 3 Reasons Why

While watching the Los Angeles Dodgers lose in the NLDS against the Arizona Diamondbacks was disappointing and frustrating, the Dodgers have many exciting things to look forward to in the 2024 season. The Dodgers have much payroll flexibility to go out and acquire new players to go along with their fantastic rookies.

Everyone is buzzing about the possibility of the Dodgers signing Shohei Ohtani to a long-term contract. While Ohtani cannot pitch in the 2024 season, he is a great offensive player poised to win the 2023 American League MVP.

He would make the Dodger offense elite.

In his end of season press conference last week, Andrew Friedman said he will concentrate on acquiring starters to go with the Dodgers’ young starting rotation of Bobby Miller, Emmet Sheehan, Ryan Pepiot, and Gavin Stone. The Dodgers could trade for Corbin Burnes. They can sign Blake Snell, who possibly can win the 2023 National League Cy Young Award, or Sonny Gray. Walker Buehler is also set to return to the starting rotation.

Friedman can improve the defense at third base by signing free-agent Matt Chapman. They will keep Max Muncy as a utility infielder who can hit 36 home runs.

The Dodger bullpen should remain dominant. It was the only aspect of the Dodgers that performed well during the NLDS. The Dodgers can promote Kyle Hurt to help the bullpen be more dominant than in the recent past.

This time of the year Friedman does his best work. He is committed to bringing another world championship to Los Angeles.

  1. Please stop saying and reporting the Dodgers have or had a dominant bullpen. They don’t and they never have. This why they don’t have multiple championships. They are constantly overrated. They do great cause the have big run leads so they work under no pressure. In the playoffs you are constantly under pressure and that’s the difference. The Dodgers need pitchers that can work under pressure, throw strikes and get outs.

  2. NO Future is Bright with Dave Roberts still manger.. he can find ways to lose no matter who is on team..SMH

    1. Agree 100%. I have been following the Dodgers since mid-60’s. Who pulls a HOF pitcher at the twilight of his career when he’s pitching a perfect game? Did it prevent Kershaw from injury? It’s this lack of appreciation for the majesty of the game and his ridiculous “by the numbers” approach that leads me to believe the Dodgers will never win a full season championship with Roberts (and Friedman) in charge. They both do not have the required grit nor the fire in their belly so their team doesn’t either

      1. That is not Roberts fault. The “by the numbers approach” is because of Friedman. I think Friedman is gun-shy. He needs to get back to his aggressive ways or move on. The ownership needs to commit to doing what it takes THIS YEAR to win a championship and not just sell 3 million-plus tickets. That is the biggest disappointment to me. Get in the game MARK WALTER…

  3. The future is bright? Uncertain starting pitching… Ppitching, come october, wins championships. Not more bats that can fall silent to superior pitching. kershaw has doomed us of rover a decade with his certain failures in the post season and the Dodgers loyatly to him for regualr season heroics. We have to let Kersh walk, and bring oin a couple for elite pitchers. If we don’t have chamionship quality pitching, we have no chance in the post season.

  4. Totally agree with Ken ! Roberts has to go before the Dodgers will have any kind of bright October, or FUTURE.

  5. So tired of participation trophies. Roberts may be well liked by the players, but he fails to get it done in the playoffs. He’s the Marty Schottenheimer of MLB. Said it recently that Mattingly was dismissed after losing the 2013 NLCS, 2014 and 2015 NLDSs. Sound familiar? Anyone? Bueller? And Mattingly never had the roster Roberts has had and never lost 6 in a row (our current streak) and 2 – 8 in our last 10 playoff games. That is so hard to believe. Yes, I count 2020 as a valid WS championship – everyone played with the same set of rules. However, it sure would be nice to actually have one without an asterisk next to it. You can’t dominate for 10+ years and have 1 WS ring to show for it. That’s underperforming and underachieving. You can’t lose to teams, as has been done under Roberts the last 3 years, that you finished 18, 22, and 16 games ahead of. I get it, playoffs are different. But performance reflects leadership, and the bottom line is our beloved Dodgers aren’t performing when it really matters…October.

    1. Then again, if we had not been cheated out of the 2017 WS with Houston, 18 W Boston…..EVerybody’s crybaby thoughts would not exist…..I hate that the announcers give Houston credit for winning 17…..so glad Texas whupped their butt

  6. Isn’t Friedman supposedly always committed to bringing a World Series to the Dodgers? Yet, won’t spend at the trade deadline, keeps Dave Roberts, and swings and misses with most free agents. Stop talking about what you want to do and SHOW US!!

  7. Agree with Mike H here with the exception of the 2020 WS: the Dodgers were given that one by the Tampa coach who pulled Blake Snell, whom the Dodgers hitters had absolutely no answer for. Snell stays in, Tampa wins and Dodgers are O-fer. Speaking of Snell, that should be FA1b after Ohtani, and FA1c is SP Yamamoto. If they do bring in Chapman for 3B, they can still keep Muncy (only $10 mil), but they should look at moving him for a LHP prospect. The rookie pitchers are the future in LA. along with Hurt. But, the Dodgers will always be “this close” until they can get a coach who can 1) win a short series, and 2) win in October. That is NOT Roberts…

  8. Reasons to be optimistic: Michael Busch, Miguel Vargas, Kyle Hurt, probably at least one starting pitcher free agent [Snell, Yamamoto], and/or one by trade [Glasnow, Burnes], maybe Ohtani, improved performances and more innings by one or more of the rookie starting pitchers Pepiot, Shehan, Gavin Stone, Grove, Outman should be a little better with a year of experience and growing up (still under peak age for a position player).

    1. Fully agree with Roger, especially on the reference to Glasnow who, if he avoids injury, can even be a #1 starter. And yes, the rookies will all be better and more grounded next year.

  9. “The Future Isn’t Bright For The LA Dodgers Because Dave Is Coming Back”
    EXTRA EXTRA! Attendance is Down!

  10. Been a Dodger fan for over 70 years. Many here think we can be world champs every year and that we should fire the manager every time we lose. It simply doesn’t happen like that every year. With the expansion of teams, rule changes and most everyone hitting 100mph on the radar gun, anything can happen and winning championships like the Yankees used to –those days are over. It comes down to who’s hot and who’s not. Anybody put down $$$ that it would be the Rangers vs. DBacks? Patience friends–we’ll be great next year.

  11. I think we are all missing the point; it is my opinion that the issue with the Dodgers is a philosophical one.
Our staff of pitchers: Buehler, Urias, an Gonsolin j,ust to name a few suffered injury due to over use; all of the aforementioned pitchers were over their limit and therefore ineffective.

The organization seems to believe that allowing their minor league staff to throw more innings to build their arms would effect their long-term effectiveness in the future.
