Dodgers Rumors: LA Reportedly Interested in Signing Lucas Giolito in Free Agency

Lucas Giolito is once again being linked with the Dodgers, and it seems that the free-agent pitcher is seriously being looked at by LA this winter. The team believes that they can fix his issues from a year ago, and he would slot into their rotation in the back end.

“So there are signs pointing to the Dodgers and Giolito’s conversations going on now turning into a signing. When that happens, I don’t know, but I can tell you they are having serious discussions. If the Dodgers do sign Giolito, he would be a four or five starter and be able to execute their game plan.”

Giolito was heavily linked with the Dodgers at the trade deadline, and the team almost landed him. But instead, he went to the cross-town Los Angeles Angels, and things imploded from there.

Before he was moved from the Chicago White Sox, Giolito had himself a solid season. He posted an ERA of 3.79 in 21 games with the White Sox, but that ERA ballooned to 6.89 while with the Angels.

Giolito was then placed on waivers and ultimately claimed by the Cleveland Guardians, where he didn’t fare any better. He posted an ERA of 7.04 in six games with Cleveland, marking a tough second half of the season for the pitcher.

LA has been known for turning guys’ careers around, and Giolito could be their next reclamation project. The Dodgers were always going to sign at least one of these types of players in the offseason, so Giolito makes perfect sense to be the next one in line.

“And he’s a guy, from what I understand, follows a game plan perfectly. If you have a bad game plan, he’ll execute it, but it won’t go well. The Dodgers are known for their game planning, they know how to get guys back on track, there are certain types of pitchers they believe they can help, and Lucas Giolito is in that category.”

The Dodgers are expected to sign at least one top-tier free-agent pitcher, but they also need to fill the rotation with guys like Giolito. He would be the perfect No. 4 or No. 5 pitcher for this team, and if he can regain his form in LA, the rest of the league better watch out.
