Dodgers Rumors: Rivals Believe Brewers Will Trade Corbin Burnes This Winter, Says NY Post Insider

Priority No. 1 for the Dodgers is two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, simple as that. The team is waiting to see where he will go and then will make moves based on his decision.

After Ohtani, the plan is clear for LA, though: find starting pitching help. The front office has been looking all over the league to upgrade their starting pitching staff this offseason, and they are doing so aggressively.

One name that continues to be linked with the Dodgers is right-hander Corbin Burnes of the Milwaukee Brewers. Burnes would satisfy the Dodgers’ need for a front-line ace and is one of the best starters in the game.

MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post is reporting that teams who have spoken with the Brewers believe there is a decent chance they trade Burnes this winter.

This report from Heyman comes at the heels of another report from MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Rosenthal linked the Dodgers back with Burnes and Willy Adames, a heavily talked about trade proposal all winter.

“Regardless of whether they sign Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers can entertain a multitude of trade options, including a long-speculated deal for right-hander Corbin Burnes and/or Willy Adames.”

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

If the Dodgers front office could pull off a deal to land Burnes and Adames, it would certainly boost their chances for next season. Both players would likely be motivated to join a legitimate contender in the Dodgers, and both are entering contract years.

It would be a good way for LA to bring in talent while having the flexibility to maneuver going forward. Rosenthal also mentioned the possibility of infielder Gavin Lux heading to Milwaukee if a deal were to go down.

“Burnes obviously would help fill the void in the Dodgers’ rotation, and Adames would give them a defensive upgrade at shortstop over Gavin Lux. A native of Kenosha, Wi., Lux could even go back to the Brewers in the trade and become the team’s second baseman, with Brice Turang moving to short.”

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

If Lux is dealt this winter, it would go against what the Dodgers have previously said about him. LA general manager Brandon Gomes said that the plan was to have Lux be the starting shortstop for the team next season.

Of course, these things are always fluid, but it would be interesting nonetheless. The front office really likes Lux, but there is no guarantee how he will come back from his torn ACL, leading to their thought of an upgrade.
