Dodgers Rumors: Insider Proposes 4 MLB-Player Deal to Bring Corbin Burnes to LA

With the baseball offseason comes all sorts of rumors, and the Dodgers always seem to be at the center of them. LA plans to be aggressive this offseason in upgrading their roster, especially within the starting rotation.

One name that has been linked to the Dodgers heavily is starter Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers. Burnes has lights-out stuff on the mound, and LA has been after him for a while now.

Similar to Burnes, shortstop Willy Adames from Milwaukee has also been connected to LA. Multiple people in the industry believe that the Dodgers could look to land both in a packaged deal.

MLB insider Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com proposed a four-player deal to send Burnes and Adames to the Dodgers. LA would be giving up two good young players, but you have to trade talent to get it.

“Dodgers get: RHP Corbin Burnes and SS Willy Adames, Brewers get: INF Gavin Lux and RHP Emmet Sheehan”

“Burnes and Adames to the Dodgers feels like a layup. It makes so much sense that it’s bound to …not happen. Such is baseball.”

Per Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com

Losing Gavin Lux and Emmet Sheehan would be tough, but the Dodgers would be getting one of the better-starting pitchers in the league. Burnes put up an ERA of 3.39 last season while posting a WHIP of 1.07. He also struck out 200 batters over 193.2 innings of work.

Burnes would immediately take over as the ace of the Dodgers pitching staff, and they would fulfill their desire to land a front-line starter this offseason. While he is entering the final year of his contract, LA would likely be able to convince him to sign long-term.

They would also shore up their shortstop position with Adames in this proposed deal. He hit .217 with 24 home runs and 80 runs batted in with Milwaukee last season.

Like Burnes, he is entering the final year of his contract, so LA wouldn’t be taking on any long-term money. They could see how Adames fits in, and then decide what to do with him for the future.

Lux is coming off a major injury, and while he is expected to return at the start of the 2024 season, they don’t know exactly how he will perform. They would be getting an upgrade at the position, with Burnes being the main piece of the trade.

  1. I can understand Burnes but giving up Lux for a 1 year rental of Adames is not such a good idea.

    1. Plus Adams is a high power, low average guy and the Dodgers already have too many of those!

  2. The Dodgers need to start making moves and quit sitting on their hands. That kind of a risk is not much of a risk in my opinion and I think it sounds good and they should do it or something similar.

  3. You have to give Lux a chance he was hitting above.290 before an injury and still ended up above .270 so Adames doesn’t look enticing enough . Being Mookie friend helps the clubhouse but we need post season killers going forward we have enough nice guys and Burns got roughed up a bit in the playoffs himself

  4. The idea of trading Lux for Adames is not good. Adames has only 1 year left and then we will be at the hands of the vultures needing to fill a most important position for 2025.

  5. I do not like this deal. Lux is almost certain to hit better than Adames and trading two young players for 1 year rentals doesn’t seem the best play in my view.

  6. I get that for the Dodgers that there is a desire to win now. However I am not willing to overpay someone like Burnes, or Snell who have been horribly inconsistent!! I don’t care if they have been CY Young award winners. The product of Starting Pitchers today is not jumping off the page in quality! I think the Dodgers would have more upside in a Vet for development and paying a #1 prospect than overpaying for one of these guys. You might even go the route of paying for hybrid piticher’s like Yarborough to compensate on the SP end. SP are pitching less innings meaning the demand for Hybrid pitchers is going up. I’m definitely interested in Yamamoto, but not interested in Snell, or Burnes!!

  7. OHTANI, SNELL, & A PROVEN CLOSER WOULD BE THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS! STOP CHEAP, PENNY-PINCHING SIGNINGS & GIVE THE 4 MILLION PPL (HARD-WORKING HISPANIC FAN BASE) THEIR MONEY’S WORTH BY GETTING A+ TALENT!!!
REMEMBER FOLKS THE TRUTH NOR THE RECORD DOESN’T LIE! LA HAS WON ONE WORLD SERIES TITLE IN THE LAST 35 YEARS & THAT WAS IN A SHORTENED 60 GAME SEASON!
MUST REPLACE THE NON-BASEBALL TYPES & BRING IN SOLID BASEBALL PPL WHO KNOW HOW TO EVALUATE BASEBALL TALENT & BUILD W.S. TITLE CONTESTING TEAMS!

    1. Calm down, Vecchio. The reason they shed all that payroll was to make room for Ohtani, and a couple others. They needed to reset their over-the-cap tax. They did both. Now, they will go after Ohtani, Yamamoto, and likely Giolito. Maybe even Hader, but I bet Hurt (The Big Hurt!) will be our closer. These guys know what they’re doing. And they forecast their contracts out a number of years, and in this case, for Ohtani. Aside from Betts and Freeman, most of the players are low-cost or under team control for some time. That was planned. Now, they pounce. Good talk.

  8. No way am I packaging Lux for Adames in this deal! Guy strikes out 900 million times sorry!!!!!

  9. Burnes is a 1 year rental as is Adames. Burnes is a very accomplished pitcher but again a 1 year rental. Adames can’t hit. He would be ANOTHER swing and miss guy with occasional power like Muncy and Taylor.
The author thinks its a great deal. I do not. I would NOT trade Lux for a poor hitting SS. Sheehan came up from AA and showed good progression.
I might trade Sheehan and Vargas for Burnes IF Burnes agreed to a contract extension but otherwise no deal.
People always want the sure thing the shiny new free agent/ I liked seeing Miller, Pepiot and Sheehan grow up last year. And if you have more controllable players you have more salary latitude to pick up true stars like they did with Freeman and Betts.
Dodgers need a guy that can make contact in the outfield. Do they re-sign Heyward or Peralta? Give LaDuca a shot? Or do they trade or get a free agent to play a corner spot?
You know they will pick up 2 pitchers I am hoping for Yamamoto and maybe Giolitto or Ryu…

  10. I sure ain’t no Insider; just love the game and BLUE, so here goes:
Much probably going on behind the curtain: Ohtani, Yamamoto. Hoping that stuff shows its face soon. Burnes would eliminate one of those 2 and maybe that would be a deal breaker trying to land one without the other? …BUT ….of course you can’t just wait for a dream that may be just a fantasy either….YIKES, I’m glad I’m not in GM shoes.
re: Adames…..I’d rather bet on LUX; he looks like a contact hitter/gamer and BLUE needs more of that.
re: Herward, I say, sign him; he’s a good team guy with a stick and great D.
Let’s spend the $ and talent on getting help in SP and the pen.
