Shohei Ohtani spoke to reporters on Monday before the Los Angeles Dodgers’ game against the New York Mets was postponed.

Ohtani provided an update on his hamstring injury, one that’s been bothering him since he was hit by a pickoff attempt during the team’s last homestand.

“It’s getting better day by day,” Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton. “Today is definitely a lot better than yesterday.”

Ohtani is in a bit of a slump, going 8-for-his-last-38 with one home run in his last 10 games. This injury has clearly impacted him, as he’s seen his average drop from .360 to .336.

Ohtani is trying to push through, though, and will take advantage of the off day on Monday due to the rain.

Hopefully, the extra day of rest helps him get back to 100 percent ahead of Tuesday’s doubleheader.

Shohei Ohtani Throwing Program Update

Ohtani also provided an update on his throwing program, one which seems to be making great strides. Ohtani said he’s throwing up to 60 feet and 80 mph in the progression.

“Just progressively increasing the distance,” Ohtani said. “Usually anywhere from 60-70 pitches, in that distance. Just continuing to increase the distance and the pitches, and just seeing where that goes. I’m not quite sure how far I’m going to go out there, but that’s the progression.”

Ohtani isn’t expected to pitch in 2024, but should be back on the mound in 2025 as he recovers from offseason surgery to repair a torn UCL.
