Dodgers Sign Former First-Round Pick to Minor League Contract
The Dodgers have signed Austin Beck to a minor league deal, per our own J.P. Hoornstra.
With a massive need in the outfield, the Dodgers’ organization could be a promising landing spot for the former Oakland A’s prospect:
Beck, 25, has yet to make an appearance in the major leagues. While in the minors he has struggled with strikeouts and hitting for power consistently.
A North Carolina native, Beck also provides some decent speed in the outfield, not unlike recently traded outfielder Jonny DeLuca. If he can get on base consistently, Beck could possibly be a stolen-base threat.
On a minor league contract, Beck can work out any struggles he’s had thus far. He’ll have the opportunity to get with the Dodgers’ hitting coaches and work out a plan to get his swing right. Ostensibly he’s healthy enough do that now after missing all of 2023.
In previous years, the Dodgers’ organization has done well with minor league reclamation projects. Max Muncy and Justin Turner were originally signed to minor league deals before going on to long careers with the Dodgers.
Comparing Beck to either Muncy or Turner is premature. However, it just proves that given the right circumstances, the organization could turn his career around.
