Dodgers: Tony Gonsolin Continues His All-Star Bid Tonight Against Chicago
The Dodgers will welcome the Cubs into town for a 4-game series starting tonight. Looking to build their lead in the NL West, Los Angeles will have to go through a Cubs team that has won 6 of their last 8 games. Although their record might now show it, they’re heating up heading into the break.
But the Cubs will have to deal with Tony Gonsolin tonight. The Dodgers’ most consistent starting pitcher will be looking for his 11th win of the season, and he’ll also be looking to cement himself in the All-Star Game. Gonsolin currently leads MLB in wins, ERA, and is just behind Shane McClanahan in WHIP through his first 15 starts.
Tony is coming off of a start in which he tossed 7.2 innings against the Padres with just 1 run against him. The Dodgers hurler did not face the Cubs when they were in Chicago earlier in the year. But over his last 6 starts, Tony has been exceptionally good.
In that time, he has gone 5-0 and punched out 33 batters through 36.2 innings of work. He also allowed just 5 earned runs over that span, good for a 1.23 ERA against a couple of very good teams. That included starts against the Mets, White Sox, Padres, and Braves.
Gonsolin faces off against Mark Leiter Jr going for the Cubs. Leiter is coming off of his third start of the year in which he allowed 1 run over 5.1 innings against the Red Sox last week. The Dodgers will look to jump on him early and get to that terrible Cubs bullpen.
