Dodgers vs Cardinals: Lineups, Pregame Matchups, and More for September 23

The Dodgers open the weekend series against the Cardinals tonight as both teams face off one final time before the end of the season. The Cardinals currently hold the lead of the NL Central Division with 88 wins, eight games ahead of the Brewers while the Dodgers are lock and loaded with the NL West title setting up what should be a showdown for the next three nights.

Of the many storylines, one to keep an eye on is Albert Pujols closing in on 700 home runs for his career. Pujols currently has 698 home runs with many Dodgers openly admitting it would be an awesome feeling seeing Pujols hit 700 at Dodgers Stadium.

With how well Pujols has played all season long and the Cardinals being legitimate contenders, the chances of Pujols getting to 700 this weekend seem very high.

Andrew Heaney draws the start on the mound for the Dodgers with a 2.66 ERA on the season drawing his 14th start of the season. Tonight’s matchup will be Heaney’s first time facing the Cardinals this season as he faces off against Jose Quintana.

Mookie Betts returns to the Dodgers lineup sliding Freddie Freeman back to the bench for the second this season and moving Trea Turner to second in the batting order. Chris Taylor, Trayce Thompson, Alex Vargas and Hanser Alberto find themselves back in the lineup after being out for just one game.

This will be the second series this season between the Dodgers and Cardinals as the Dodgers got the best of the Cardinals 2-1 in the first series. The first pitch is set for 7:10 PM tonight on AppleTV as the Dodgers look for win 105.
