Former Dodgers Fan Favorite Inducted Into Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame

Former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher and fan favorite Russell Martin was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024 on Tuesday.

The Dodgers congratulated Martin via their official social media channels:

“The Los Angeles Dodgers congratulate former catcher Russell Martin on his induction into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Class of 2024. Martin, a two-time All-Star catcher, Gold Glove award winner and Silver Slugger with the Dodgers, played six seasons of his 14-year Major League career with the club.”

Martin spent six seasons with the Dodgers in the major leagues, from 2006-10, and again for his final MLB season in 2019. His final appearance on the field was in Game 3 of the 2019 National League Division Series, the last of his 58 career postseason games.

Martin debuted in Los Angeles in 2006 and immediately became part of the Dodgers’ everyday lineup. As the starting catcher, he was a key piece for the team. His best season came in 2007, when he was a Naitonal League All-Star, Gold Glove winner and Silver Slugger.

During his initial time with the Dodgers, Martin recorded 44 home runs and 300 RBIs. Martin also added another six home runs and 20 RBIs during his second stint with his team at the end of his career.

Martin also played for the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays in 14 major league seasons. In total, the Ontario native made four MLB All-Star squads with 191 career home runs and 771 career RBIs with a .248 batting average.

He also represented Team Canada at the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Jimmy Key, Ashley Stephenson, Rod Heisler, Paul Godfrey and Howard Birnie will be inducted alongside Martin on June 15.

In 2025, Martin is set to debut on the National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.
