Dodgers’ Unheralded Offseason Acquisition Has PCL’s Longest Hitting Streak

When the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Jonathan Araúz to a minor league contract in December of 2023, there was a possibility of an invitation to major league spring training in 2024.

The invitation didn’t come.

Instead of being provided with an opportunity to prove himself during spring training, Araúz has kicked off the 2024 season with the longest hitting streak in the Pacific Coast League.

On Thursday, the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 21-9. Araúz went 1-for-5 with a double and a walk, extending his hitting streak to 14 games. He is 18-for-59 (.305) during the stretch with eight doubles, one triple, and a home run.

The 25-year-old played in 27 games last season for the New York Mets, batting .136 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 59 at-bats. He played 15 games at third base, seven at second base, and five at shortstop, committing just one error with 46 assists and 24 putouts in 169 innings.

Araúz has played in parts of four seasons at the MLB level with the Boston Red Sox (2020-22), Baltimore Orioles (2022) and Mets (2023). He is a career .184 hitter with eight homers, 31 RBIs, a .253 on-base percentage, and a .308 slugging percentage.

    1. That would be great but you know that as long as Roberts prefers giving CT3 chances to improve, he will never replace him with another guy and besides, Taylor did good today.
