Gavin Lux to Play Shortstop For Dodgers For First Time This Season on Sunday
Gavin Lux will officially make his return to shortstop on Sunday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. This will be his first time playing shortstop since he tore his ACL a year ago. Lux’s torn ACL caused him to miss the entire 2023 season.
Lux made his return to the field as a designated hitter on Thursday in the Dodgers’ first Cactus League game of the season against the San Diego Padres, helping the Dodgers earn a 14-1 win. Lux recorded one hit and one run in that first game back.
After his first game back, Lux detailed what it was like returning to the diamond.
“It just felt good to run around and be a baseball player again, especially coming back here where I literally blew it out. It’s just fun to get some at-bats and feel normal again, do what you grew up doing.”

On Sunday, Lux will finally make his defensive return at shortstop. This is huge for both Lux and the Dodgers. For one, it’s a sign that Lux’s recovery heading into the season has gone well.
While he previously indicated he would be ready for opening day, he is taking things slow during Spring Training.
Lux will finally get to take over as the team’s everyday shortstop in 2024. He was supposed to take on that role a year ago, but his year was stunted due to an unfortunate injury.
*New reporting has Lux making his debut at shortstop on Monday, instead of Sunday.
