Giants Sign Longtime Dodgers Target Willy Adames to $182 Million Blockbuster Deal
Free agent shortstop Willy Adames signed a seven-year, $182 million deal with the San Francisco Giants, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The deal is the largest in the franchise’s history.
Adames was a longtime target of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but instead, will bolster the lineup of their National League West rivals, the Giants.
BREAKING: Shortstop Willy Adames and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a seven-year, $182 million contract, the largest deal in franchise history, sources tell ESPN. Adames, 29, had a career-best 32 home runs and 112 RBIs in 2024. The deal is pending a physical.

Adames, 29, hit a career-high 32 home runs and 112 runs batted in 2024. San Francisco has struggled to stay competitive in the NL West as the Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Diego Padres have largely dominated.
However, Adames will now be the Giants’ franchise shortstop for the next seven seasons. The Giants and Dodgers have been the two NL West teams to make a huge splash this winter.
Starting pitcher Blake Snell chose to join the stars in Los Angeles on a five-year, $182 million deal. The signing of Adames keeps San Francisco in the mix for the coming seasons.
Additionally, the acquisition of Adames marks a strong and aggressive start to Buster Posey’s tenure as the Giants president of baseball operations.
Now that it’s confirmed Adames won’t be joining the Dodgers, it’s likely that Tommy Edman and Miguel Rojas will handle the duties at shortstop. The Dodgers also announced Mookie Betts would be moving to the infield for the 2025 season, so there is a possibility Betts could also return to shortstop.
With Adames signed to a team, baseball fans will be waiting for the inevitable decision of free agent outfielder Juan Soto to come next. The expectation is that Soto will make a decision soon.

Alex Freeland is the solution at SS.
Missed on that one. Still need a shortstop and third baseman and Teoscar and Sosaki!
