Kamala Harris Gives Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Congratulatory Call After World Series
After the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series, Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, called Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to congratulate him on the victory.
“Dave, it’s Kamala Harris … we are well and we couldn’t be more proud of the team and your leadership and that incredible win,” Harris said over the phone. “I wasn’t able to watch the game live, but of course your biggest fan Doug Emhoff did.”
Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman of the United States, is a Dodgers fan. Emhoff was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1964, six years after the Dodgers played their first game in Los Angeles.
“I know the second gentleman is a Dodgers fan,” Roberts said back. “and I was just hoping your allegiance would at least stay on the West Coast.”
Emhoff recalled where he and Harris were as the Dodgers pulled off a remarkable comeback to win Game 5 on Wednesday.
“Congrats,” Emhoff said. “We were actually doing events, and we had our phones out. When we got in our car after one event, you were down 5-0. By the time we got to our next event, it was 5-5. By the time we were done for the evening, we saw you celebrating and it was such a thrill.”
The win marked Roberts’ second World Series victory as the manager of the Dodgers, and the Dodgers’ eight World Series title. When Roberts and the Dodgers last won the World Series in 2020, it was right before current president Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election.
Harris and Emhoff previously congratulated the Dodgers on their victory on social media.
“Couldn’t be prouder to be a Dodgers fan. Congrats on becoming World Series champs!” Emhoff wrote on X.
“Congratulations to the 2024 World Series champions, the Los Angeles @Dodgers! Your dominant play this season brought joy to millions of fans around the world,” Harris wrote on X.

Thankfully, sports usually rises above politics. God forbid had the NYYs won and the other candidate called Boone, I’m sure there would be joy from some and distaste from others. Get over it people; it was a phone call from one Californian and LAD fan to the manager who just accomplished something special. Vote the way you want at your polling place, not here.
