Kiké Hernandez Has Stomach Bug With Vomiting, Dodgers Hoping It’s Not What Mookie Betts Had

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Kiké Hernández is out as he’s dealing with vomiting and is struggling to keep food down.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters the team is hoping it’s not what Mookie Betts has been dealing with for the past two-plus weeks, which kept him out of eight games before finally returning in Tuesday’s Freeway Series finale.

However, Roberts said the Dodgers believe it “would have happened earlier” if Hernández did get sick from Betts. He also added that other guys have been dealing with “sniffles and things like that” recently.

Roberts doesn’t know if Hernández will even be with the team at the ballpark for Opening Day.

Betts got sick during the final week of Cactus League play in early March. He missed the final two Cactus League games, all four games in Japan, and the first two games of the Freeway Series. He lost nearly 20 pounds and could not eat solid foods.

The Dodgers will hope Hernández isn’t dealing with something similar, as that would put him on the shelf for a significant amount of time. The Dodgers should have more updates on Hernández on Friday, but will hope the utility man can return to the lineup sooner rather than later.

Hernández appeared in both games of the Tokyo Series, going 1-for-8 with a three-run home run.
