Max Muncy Addresses Nolan Arenado to Dodgers Trade Rumors

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked to a number of free agents this offseason, but fans were recently in a frenzy after All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado posted a series of photos to his Instagram along with Kendrick Lamar’s song “dodger blue.”

Several fans took Arenado’s choice of song as a hint toward his preferred trade destination this winter. It is widely known that the St. Louis Cardinals are shopping the 10-time Gold Glove winner as the organization is rebuilding the roster in 2025. The Dodgers are on Arenado’s list of six preferred destinations.

There was also speculation that the Dodgers are interested in Arenado, which was puzzling given the team already has a starting third baseman in Max Muncy. However, the biggest question remains: Where would Arenado fit on the roster?

Muncy, a two-time World Series champion with the Dodgers, addressed the rumor mill in a recent appearance on Foul Territory.

“As long as I get to stay around, I don’t care who they bring in,” Muncy said. “I think Andrew (Friedman) and Brandon (Gomes) know my stance on that extremely well. I’ve never been one that said ‘No, I’m not going to play this position, I’m not going to play that position. I’m not going to bat in this spot in the order.’ I don’t care. As long as you put me out there, I’ll play wherever they want to put me. As long as it means I’m out there on that field wearing Dodger blue, playing in that stadium. You’re talking about arguably the best defensive third baseman if you look at his numbers. I can see why it would be appealing. To me, it doesn’t matter. I just want to be there and help the team win.”

Muncy’s mentality is clear: the more, the merrier. As the Dodgers try to build another World Series roster, Muncy is willing to be a part of the team in any capacity. His selflessness is a testament to the group of Dodgers that won the Fall Classic in 2020 and 2024.

While it’s unlikely Arenado joins the Dodgers, it’s at least good for L.A. to know Muncy doesn’t mind as long as he has a spot in the lineup.

  1. Oh man, Max. Got to shelve the emotional and make it a ‘what’s best for Max’, thing. Keep Max. They need a guy up in SF that can play 3rd.

  2. Max isn’t major league quality any longer. Muncy was a five year model coming in and that five year period is long gone. Some of the fans like to point to his numbers but never talk about his playing time and IL visits. Max put up around less than a half season last year. During a full season Muncy will struggle to hit .200 in his dreams. And who’s he kidding? With Arenado around there wouldn’t be any room left on the 26 man roster for Muncy’s under performing waste of time. About the only good thing with Max is his improved defense. He spent the last few seasons hovering around .200 …………..Half his hits seem like either a home run or single ………He’s only on the roster because they’re too cheap to pay Arenado. Arenado on the other hand accumulates over 600 ABs a year . Every year which is too much. Arenado is better defensively than Muncy if their metrics are fairly accurate. Arenado bounced back last season to hit .270 which is within his norm. Arenado is a Hall of Fame player. Certainly his home run rate was low last year but he plays every game which takes a toll on his body at his age. And he didn’t look healthy last year. With a smaller workload Arenado could still produce better than Muncy and be more effective at contacting the ball for hits , which is what is needed in October. Muncy is just being selfish with his demand that he be on the team. Especially since he’s being paid regardless if he’s on the team or a different one!
