MLB Insider Thinks Astros Could Trade Alex Bregman, Should Dodgers Make a Move?

Starting at third base for your Los Angeles Dodgers, Alex Bregman…

I know, I know. The thought of Bregman suiting up for the Dodgers is a strange one and quite possibly even a bit infuriating. But he is an above-average baseball player, and he could possibly be had this winter.

It’s being reported that the Houston Astros may be looking to move their star infielder this offseason, with the knowledge that they will lose him in free agency next season. And the Dodgers may want to inquire about just how available Bregman is.

While the 2017 World Series is still fresh in the minds of Dodgers fans, winning right now is, too. Last offseason, LA was linked to Carlos Correa and there was a good portion of fans who were cool with the team signing him. Why can’t the same be true for Bregman?

Did I mention he’s a better player?

I’m not all for the Dodgers making this move, but I could see why they would consider it. Last season for Houston, Bregman hit .262 with 25 home runs and 98 runs batted in.

He is still very good offensively, defensively and is a good leader in the clubhouse. Bregman has been the heartbeat of the Astros for a long time now and has helped keep Houston together while they’ve lost talent over the years. It’s a big reason why they consistently do well in the postseason.

While a trade for Bregman is unlikely, his availability is the interesting part. It’s surprising to see Houston be open to moving him, but the game is a business after all. If the Dodgers did make a trade for him, he would instantly help them win baseball games, even if half the fanbase would be booing him at least in the beginning.

In conclusion, a trade for Bregman may be too risky. With him entering free agency next season, the Dodgers stand to lose him unless they want to pay what it will take.

Knowing the history of the Dodgers, they won’t. Plus, Bregman may not enjoy hearing the boos raining down from the rafters at home games from the fans, which would likely push him away.

But Bregman is an incredible baseball player — like, incredible. And it wouldn’t hurt the Dodgers to at least make a phone call to Houston.

    1. You must not havea life, get over it every teams cheats especially the dogersand Yankees to name a few

      1. The ‘everybody does it’ stuff drives me crazy – it’s what every criminal says when caught. As Jay said, there are some major differences here. If a runner on second flashes a sign home about what’s coming, to me that’s not cheating, that’s baseball. Anything you can observe with your eyes is fair game. A pitcher tipping pitches – go for it. In these cases it’s the fault of those allowing it. You’ve said the Dodgers and Yankees were the worst. All I would ask is the evidence. It’s easy to sling accusations, but to be taken seriously requires proof. Our overall culture is moving rapidly away from expecting evidence such that any idiot with internet access can spew all manner of B.S. We all need to insist on seeing what proof there is for everything we hear and be very skeptical until we see such proof.

      1. How do people like you STILL not understand or willfully ignore the differences between what the Astros did and what everybody else did? The Astros were the only team banging trash cans and whistling to signal what pitch was coming in real time, no other team did that. What the Red Sox and Yankees did was what every other team was doing. All cheating is not equal just like all crime is not equal. The penalty for stealing a candy bar is less than the penalty for robbing a bank. The Red Sox, Yankees and 27 other teams were stealing candy bars. The Astros were robbing banks. It’s truly not that hard to understand if you really want to. You and your ilk clearly don’t want to.

  1. No. I don’t care how good he is. I want no position player from the 17 asterisks on iur team. I wish no one would sign them.

  2. The Dodger fans would never want an Astro cheater on their team. I don’t care how good the player might be. The answer would be a definite “NO”.
