Mookie Betts, Dave Roberts, and More Behind The Scenes of Dodgers Foundation Gala
Before the Los Angeles Dodgers opened a six-game homestand, Dodger Stadium hosted the eighth annual Blue Diamond Gala. The event raises funds for the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, a nonprofit that works on local causes including education, homelessness, and health care.
“Over the last 11 years, we’ve actually raised $100 million,” Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation CEO Nichol Whiteman told Dodgers Nation reporter Doug McKain. “We’ve had an opportunity to invest $60 million in programs and grants to 280 unique nonprofits.”
Last year the gala was headlined by Usher, who gifted the team with the celebration known as ‘The Freddie.’ Headlining the event this year was British popstar, Ed Sheeran.
Every player walked the red carpet with their significant others, stopping to answer questions from McKain ranging from their favorite Sheeran song to who they switch outfits with.
Most players said they would switch outfits with Jason Heyward except for Mookie Betts who said he wanted to switch with Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
“Yamamoto has some swag,” Betts said. “I like his wardrobe.”
Evan Phillips was a popular choice for the players’ emergency contact. Bobby Miller said he’s the most responsible guy.
Overall, it was a great night and the Dodgers ownership group pledged to donate $50 million and another $50 if the team reaches the World Series.
