Mookie Betts’ Mt. Rushmore of Baseball Players Includes Current Dodgers Teammate

On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers gathered at Dodger Stadium for the annual Blue Diamond Gala which raises money for the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation.

This year’s concert was headlined by pop star Ed Sheeran, but before the show started Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain caught up with several of the players on the red carpet. Shortstop Mookie Betts happily answered McKain’s question about who is on his Mt. Rushmore of baseball.

“I’m gonna go (Derek) Jeter, Mariano (Rivera), Ted Williams for sure, and then to be honest, Shohei (Ohtani),” Betts said. “When he’s playing both, he does both better than everybody.”

Ohtani solidified himself as one of the best players in Dodgers history on Saturday night when he hit his eighth home run of the season, surpassing manager Dave Roberts for the franchise record in home runs hit by a Japanese-born player. He already holds the record in the same category for Major League Baseball.

Ohtani, who has shown a more playful side to his personality since his former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara was fired, commemorated tying his manager’s record by gifting him with a toy Porsche.

  1. Has anyone taken Shohei aside and told him about how Kenta would prank Will the Thrill? After hearing about Doc’s Porsche, something tells me he could have fun carrying on Kenta’s tradition.
