New Padres Pitcher Dylan Cease Looking Forward to Facing Dodgers

Just before the San Diego Padres boarded their flight to South Korea, where they will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Seoul Series, they added a new ace — Dylan Cease. The Padres completed a trade to acquire Cease from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for several prospects and one reliever.

Though the Padres have already announced that Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove will get the opening starts of the season for the team in Korea, they now have another key starter with great potential.

For his part, Cease is excited to go up against the Dodgers, who are now his division rivals. Though Cease was complimentary of the Dodgers, he also clarified that the Padres, themselves, are a talented group.

“Realistically, if you want to win, you’re going to have to face the best at some point. So you can either shy away from it or you can go out and give what you have and embrace the challenge. Obviously, the (Dodgers) are obviously very talented, but the Padres, we, sorry, have a ton of talent here too. So I think there’s going to be a lot of fun battles.”

Cease has gone up against the Dodgers twice in his career so far. He’s 0-1 against the team with 18 strikeouts and a 1.80 ERA.

Of course, pitching against the Dodgers has gotten even harder now that they’ve added Shohei Ohtani into their lineup. With a top-three lineup of Mookie Betts, Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman, it’s going to take every ounce of the Padres pitching talent to keep up with the Dodgers.

Cease will definitely help, and make for some really good battles this season and next.
