Rays Will ‘Definitely’ Trade Tyler Glasnow, Should the Dodgers Pursue Him?

One of the main priorities for the Dodgers this offseason is to upgrade their starting rotation after a very tough 2023. The team is expected to be aggressive in doing so both in free agency and on the trade market.

LA plans to look all across the league to find the players that they believe will help bolster the rotation, and they may be more willing to upgrade via trade. The team has been hesitant in recent years to hand out massive contracts to free agents, and the team has already been linked to multiple pitchers currently on other teams.

The Dodgers want to land at least one front-line starter this offseason, and one player that is expected to be available is starter Tyler Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays — and the Dodgers could look to land the right-hander.

After missing the majority of the 2022 season, Glasnow returned in 2023 to appear in 21 games. He posted an ERA of 3.53 and a WHIP of 1.08. He also added 162 strikeouts over 120 innings of work.

Glasnow isn’t a big innings-eater, typically going up until around the sixth inning. But the Dodgers may be exactly the team to continue utilizing him in that manner. Like the Rays, LA doesn’t allow their starters to go far into games except on rare occurrences.

He is owed $25 million for the 2024 season before he hits free agency, and that could intrigue the Dodgers. They would get a front-line pitcher for the season but without the big commitment into the future. And if they like what they see from him, they could always extend him before he hits the open market.

While Glasnow would make the Dodgers better, he hasn’t been great in the postseason over his career. He is 2-6 with an ERA of 5.72 over 10 games pitcher and that could scare off LA. They already have an issue with the postseason, so adding another poor performer could be tough.

Glasnow would be a solid pickup for the Dodgers, but the team may be better off going after some of the other starters that are available first.
