Shohei Ohtani Already Spotted Working Out at Dodger Stadium

Shohei Ohtani announced he was signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers only a week ago, and already he’s making his presence felt.

On Saturday, Ohtani was spotted at his new ballpark, working out in the outfield.

From the outside looking in, this is exactly what everyone wants to see from a $700 million player. Working hard away from the spotlight promotes a work ethic that can permeate a clubhouse, and raise expectations for everyone.

Behind the scenes too, Ohtani is putting in work to help better the team in any way he can. During an interview with Foul Territory this week, Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux revealed he had already met Ohtani in the team’s weight room.

Although he hasn’t thrown a pitch on the mound, Ohtani is already pitching other players on the idea of joining the Dodgers for the long term. He helped court Tyler Glasnow, saying that he wants to hit home runs for the newly acquired ace. Manager Dave Roberts, talking with Dan Patrick earlier in the week, said Ohtani was a major player in the team’s attempt to sign Ohtani’s World Baseball Classic teammate, pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Glasnow agreed to a contract extension as a provision of joining the Dodgers in a trade Saturday. Yamamoto remains a free agent.

During his introductory press conference Thursday, Ohtani made it known the most important thing to him is winning. In a little more than a week, he’s shown just how committed to winning with LA he is.
