Shohei Ohtani Out of Dodgers’ Lineup for First Time This Season Wednesday vs Diamondbacks

Shohei Ohtani is out of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lineup for the first time this season on Wednesday in the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Ohtani is being replaced by Will Smith at the designated hitter position, with Austin Barnes catching.

Arizona has the left-handed Jordan Montgomery on the mound, but Ohtani is 2-for-6 in his career against Montgomery with a double — Ohtani was also in the starting lineup on Tuesday with Montgomery on the mound, before a 115-minute bee delay forced Arizona to switch starting pitchers.

As of now, there’s no information on why Ohtani is out of the lineup, but there will be an update from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who’s scheduled to speak to reporters at 4:15 p.m. PT.

Ohtani went 1-for-5 on Tuesday, and is slashing .336/.399/.618 this season with seven home runs and 19 RBIs.

Stay tuned on dodgersnation.com for more updates on Ohtani’s status when we learn more.

  1. Maybe swinging the bat 3 x per game is too strenuous on him? Maybe he doesn’t feel like he’s being paid enough to play every day?

  2. They didn’t play a lot of starters last night. They’ve been on the road for something like 10 days with 1 day off. I’m sure Roberts wanted to give a lot of his guys an extra day of rest along with giving some of the others playing time. Managing a baseball team over 160 games a season is about playing chess and making the decisions so you can make it to game 160+ with healthy players.

  3. 2 for his last 19 ! DFA him!!
Lol. But srly, sho is still only at like 85% right now. He still has more to give. This line up needs some shaking up too. Pages 6 hole ( if he can learn to read the slider). Pages will slump soon unfortunately.
Flip max pages n Teo in the 5-7 holes. Lux n Rojas 9 hole. Then CT3, Outman and Jhey ( Ward ?) 8 hole. We won’t have room on Roster tho. If our 7-9 line up rakes, there’ll be no stopping us!
