Teoscar Hernández Reveals More About His Decision to Join Dodgers

Teoscar Hernández had one thing on his mind when he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers on a one-year, $23.5 million deal — winning.

The outfielder spoke with MLB Network Radio on Friday and explained his reasoning for signing with the Dodgers in further detail.

“First thing is I want to win. Everybody knows how this organization is so that was one of my priorities… I think I just chose the best situation I could make for me and my family and my future.”

The consensus surrounding the topic of free agency this offseason has been that it was different. Guys weren’t signing for as much as they hoped or as many years as they thought. Hernández wanted more years but took what he could get to be around some of the game’s best players.

“I think it is more than what I expected. I’m really happy that I made the decision to sign here. From the couple of weeks I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot from the guys who have been around so much. Mookie, Freeman, Ohtani, Heyward, Muncy all those guys have been in the league a lot and had some success throughout the years. Anywhere you go, you’re learning from those guys.”

The expectation for Hernández this season is to play in left field mainly. He could also platoon, depending on the situation.

So far this spring, he has appeared in five Cactus League games and has gone 4-for-13 with three doubles, two runs batted in, two runs scored and a walk.

The Dodgers are split squad on Saturday and he will stay at Camelback Ranch to play against the Chicago Cubs. He’s starting in right field and batting fifth.
