Tim Anderson Open to Playing Second Base, Should Dodgers Consider Signing Him?

The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to go big fish hunting this offseason. This offseason would look like night and day when comparing to their 2022-23 offseason, as LA will look to bounce back from their dreadful playoff exit against their division rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Boys in Blue will look to make some noise by signing the mega free agents available, but they’ll also look for positions of need as well. While we all know first base is covered for at least the next four years, the rest of the infield is a bit shaky. However, LA could add a former All-Star into second base if they choose to, following what MLB insider Russell Dorsey said about White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson.

According to Dorsey, Anderson is open to switching to second base if need be.

Anderson was linked to LA last season prior to the trade deadline. Now, he is a free agent this offseason as the White Sox declined his contract option earlier this month, making him a free agent for the first time in his career.

The 30-year-old has had an impressive career thus far. Through eight seasons, he is a .282 hitter, has a career .735 OPS and has 98 career homers to go along with 338 RBIs.

The 2023 season was a down year for Anderson all across the board, only slugging .296 with a 60 OPS+; however, for some context, the entire White Sox team wasn’t doing well, so take those numbers with a grain of salt.

On top of that, LA will need a second baseman. Yes, Mookie Betts did the job at times, but he’s best used in right field, and with the return of Gavin Lux in 2024 at the shortstop position, LA is lacking a second baseman at the moment.

We’ll see how aggressive the Dodgers will be on Anderson, someone who they’ve had interest in adding in the past.
