Tyler Glasnow Calls First Home Start As Dodger ‘Awesome’ Experience

It’s safe to say Tyler Glasnow fits in quite well at Dodger Stadium. The right-handed pitcher was one of the Dodgers’ big offseason additions, with the team acquiring him in a trade from the Tampa Bay Rays as part of a four-player trade in December. After bringing Glasnow in, the Dodgers quickly negotiated a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension.

Already, the investment is paying off. Eight days after getting the first start of the regular season for the Dodgers in the Seoul Series, Glasnow also got the start in the Dodgers’ home opener Thursday.

The Southern California native excelled in his domestic debut against the St. Louis Cardinals. Glasnow pitched six innings and allowed just two hits, one walk and one earned run. He also struck out five batters as the Dodgers claimed a 7-1 win.

Glasnow gushed about the experience to reporters, including Dodgers Nation’s J.P. Hoornstra, after the game.

“It was awesome. It was great. I felt good. Overall just a really awesome experience.”

Glasnow said his slider was his most successful pitch. He threw 28 in total, according to Statcast, induced eight swings and misses, and generally limited the Cardinals to only soft contact on the pitch. The exception? A line drive by Nolan Gorman that was caught for an out.

“I think the slider was working well today. For the most part that was my best pitch. The curveball wasn’t that great until the end.”

Despite Glasnow’s great efforts, he acknowledged he wasn’t the only factor in the Dodgers’ success Thursday: “It’s great to be a starting pitcher behind a lineup like that,” he said.

Glasnow and the lineup played complementary baseball, with both putting in their best ball for a strong win. The Dodgers’ lineup collected ten hits and seven RBIs, with Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts each hitting home runs.

After a successful home start on Thursday from Glasnow, Bobby Miller will take over and get the start for the Dodgers on Friday.
