Dodgers Score: Betts, Ohtani, Freeman Dominate Miles Mikolas, Tyler Glasnow Shines in Home Debut

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered Opening Day at 1-1 after splitting the Seoul Series against the San Diego Padres.

Back in America, they got the 2024 season off on the right note with a dominant 7-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tyler Glasnow shined in his home debut, going six innings and allowing just one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts.

As for the offense, they didn’t take long to get to Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas, who had some interesting words for the Dodgers earlier in March.

In the bottom of the first inning, Mookie Betts led off with a walk, followed by a Shohei Ohtani double. There was some confusion on the base paths, though, and Ohtani was tagged out going to third base. Betts, however, was able to stay on third.

Freddie Freeman then immediately hit an RBI single, and the Dodgers took the 1-0 lead. Two batters later, a Max Muncy sacrifice fly made it 2-0 Dodgers.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Dodgers had Betts leading off again — and this time, he made sure there would be no base running issues.

Betts crushed a home run to left field, and the Dodgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Two batters later, after an Ohtani walk, it was Freeman’s turn to go yard.

He crushed a two-run home run to center field, and the Dodgers led 5-0 just like that.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Cardinals get their first and only run of the game on a Paul Goldschmidt solo home run.

Then, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Dodgers chased Mikolas from the game after an Ohtani single.

James Outman added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, while Muncy added an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Ryan Yarbrough relieved Glasnow, and pitched three scoreless innings allowing just one hit.

  1. I was kind of hoping they’d do an “on-base” dance like writing a check, which would get Mikolas’s goat. But I guess they are too classy for that.
