Tyler Glasnow Reacts to Being Named Dodgers’ Opening Day Starter

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow has officially been named the Dodgers’ Opening Day starter when the team takes on the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea on March 20. It was long expected that Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto would earn the two starts for the Seoul Series. Monday, Major League Baseball confirmed the pitching assignments for both the Dodgers and Padres.

It’s a huge moment for Glasnow, who agreed to a five-year, $136.5 million contract with the Dodgers this offseason after the team traded for him from the Tampa Bay Rays. Now, Glasnow becomes the Dodgers first starter of the season as he returns to his home of Southern California.

Glasnow revealed his thoughts and reaction to the announcement on Monday.

“It means everything. Just to sign here, that all being a reality feels crazy. Then when they told me I was the Opening Day starter, I definitely felt a lot of pride and excitement.”

Though it’s a great moment for Glasnow, his focus remains on doing his job and pitching well.

“I’m not the most sentimental person. I think I’ll try – I don’t like try to block it out but I’m very much like, ‘I’ve got a job to do. I’m here to pitch.’ I think my answer may be a different a few years later if you ask me. It’ll be, “What was that all about? How’d that feel?’ But right now, it’s like a normal season I’ve got to go pitch. It’s obviously different but if I keep it similar, keep it the same, I usually respond to it.”

The 30-year-old Glasnow is looking to have his best MLB season yet. So far in Spring Training, Glasnow has started two games. He’s struck out six batters and allowed four hits and one earned run through 4.2 innings, good for a 1.93 ERA.
