What Does the Dodgers Lineup Look Like With Teoscar Hernandez Back?

Now that the Los Angeles Dodgers locked down outfielder Teoscar Hernández for the next few seasons, there is a general idea of what the 2025 lineup will look like.

Here’s what the Dodgers lineup could look like next season:

1. Shohei Ohtani, DH

2. Mookie Betts, SS

3. Freddie Freeman, 1B

4. Teoscar Hernández, RF

5. Max Muncy, 3B

6. Will Smith, C

7. Michael Conforto, LF

8. Tommy Edman, CF

9. Gavin Lux, 2B

After the Dodgers announced Mookie Betts would move to the infield in 2024, one of the biggest needs the team had to address in free agency was in the outfield. The Dodgers found one solution by signing left-handed hitter Michael Conforto.

In 2024, Conforto hit at a .237 clip with 20 home runs, 66 runs batted in, and a .759 OPS for the San Francisco Giants. Additionally, he posted the lowest single-season walk rate of his career (8.6 percent), but also the highest full-season hard-hit rate (46.3 percent).

General manager Brandon Gomes shared what the Dodgers plan is for Conforto next season.

“I don’t believe Michael is now a better hitter vs. left than right,” Gomes said. “I do believe with his swing and his path that he will handle left-handers better than he has historically, and he will still maintain a very high level vs. right, especially when you look at what he did on the road and some of the under-the-hood stuff.”

While the Dodgers found one outfield solution in Conforto, the team still needed a right-handed hitter in the lineup. After weeks of waiting, Dodgers fans finally got their Christmas wish as the team re-signed Hernández just a few days after the holiday.

With Hernández back in the lineup, the Dodgers have a ridiculously solid top of the order. The constant switch of left-handed hitters and right-handed hitters should prove to be tricky for any starting pitcher.

Although the lineup is relatively set for next season, the Dodgers still have needs to address on the pitching staff. The team could still use another starting pitcher and a high-leverage arm in the bullpen. The Dodgers lost out on changeup specialist Devin Williams to the New York Yankees, but are still favored to sign starting pitcher Roki Sasaki.

The Dodgers have been linked to free agent reliever Tanner Scott, but there has been no further update regarding a potential signing of the left-hander.

  1. At the moment, the Dodgers position players lineup is set. Won’t be any possible surprises coming out of spring training unless there’s an injury. I still don’t like the idea of Mookie playing shortstop. He’d be better at 2nd base. If they can’t sign Ha Seong Kim, trade Lux and others for a shortstop. Of course, Miguel Rojas is always there for backup.

  2. Top of the order should be:
    Betts
    Freeman
    Ohtani
    Edman
    Hernandez
Waste of power with Ohtani leading off

    1. Are you freaking kidding me. Ohtani is the perfect leadoff hitter. Why would you put him 3rd and decrease his plate appearances. Just glad your not the manager.
