Why Hasn’t the Dodgers, Rays Trade for Tyler Glasnow Been Finalized Yet?

The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a two-for-two trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. The Dodgers are acquiring RHP Tyler Glasnow and OF Manuel Margot for RHP Ryan Pepiot and OF Jonny DeLuca.

The trade was contingent on an extension with Glasnow, one the two sides agreed to on Friday morning. The extension is reportedly for five years and will pay Glasnow $135 million.

All the pieces were completed, and yet, as of Friday night, Glasnow and Margot are not yet with the Dodgers. So that begs the question, why?

While we don’t know the exact reason the trade has not yet been finalized, Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported that the trade will go through — however, it won’t be Friday night.

When Will the Tyler Glasnow Trade Go Through?

Topkin said the trade is set to be announced on Saturday.

The hold-up could have been the extension, but we know the two sides agreed to it on Friday morning. So, there could be some hold-up in the physicals, but Topkin said the trade will be going through — so that’s likely a non-issue, too.

So, for whatever reason, the trade won’t go through until Saturday — but rest assured, Dodger fans, Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot will be Dodgers soon enough.

In the mean time, here’s some great analysis on the trade and what it means for the Dodgers.
