Andrew Friedman Explains Why Dave Roberts is ‘Perfect’ Manager For Dodgers

Every Dodgers fan has an opinion on manager Dave Roberts. For better or worse, Roberts is a focal point of debate within the fanbase.

Some love him. Others criticize his every move. Roberts has taken it all in stride, continuing to lead this team in the best way he knows how.

Regardless of whether or not fans feel a manager’s best is good enough, their opinion doesn’t matter inside the organization. Roberts has the trust of the front office, including president of baseball operations Andrew Freidman.

Friedman spoke with our own Doug McKain about why Roberts is the perfect manager for this Dodgers team.

“Just consistency. Communication, consistency. He brings so much energy into our clubhouse, into our dugout and I think he has that respect for the players and the players have that respect for him. And I think he does a great job of putting guys into positions to succeed, which in turn they appreciate and makes for a really good dynamic.”

Roberts is loved by players every season. But it’s his ability to get the most out of them that has kept him around this long.

The Dodgers have reached the playoffs each season that Roberts has managed, three times ending in the World Series. While he has only won one title, at least the 2017 World Series loss to the Houston Astros wasn’t a clean victory for the other side.

After their $1.2 billion offseason spending spree, the 2024 Dodgers face pressure to win like no team before. Roberts will continue to run the show with a big smile on his face, facing any challenge head-on, just like he has done for years.
