Andrew Friedman Provides Update on Dodgers Offseason Plans

The Dodgers are one of the more active teams on the free agent and trade market right now, and it feels like they will add major pieces to the squad. LA plans on being aggressive this offseason after two straight first-round playoff exits to division rivals.

The big fish for LA is two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, and they are currently the favorites to land him in free agency. But the Dodgers are also linked with plenty of other high-profile targets as well, especially on the starting pitching front.

The priority for the Dodgers is starting pitching, and there has been talk about them adding at least two front-line starters this offseason. LA has the resources to make things happen for themselves, and they should look to go all-in.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman provided an update on the Dodgers offseason plans on Friday.

“Right now, things are building momentum in a lot of different areas,” Friedman said. “Whether that means a lot of things will get done during these three days in Nashville or not, I’m not sure. But I do feel like a lot of things are starting to come to a head.”

Once Ohtani makes his free agency decision, things will start to trickle through. He will be the first big domino to fall, and others will then fall in line after him.

With the winter meetings coming up in a few days, it should be an action-packed week. Not every move will be made then, but we could be in for a massive frenzy for free agents.

The hope is that LA ends up with Ohtani plus at least one ace-level pitcher to head up the rotation. The Dodgers have a lot of options ahead of them, and we should have a more concrete understanding of what their offseason may look like in the coming days.

  1. Feels like we need two starting pitchers, top 3 in the rotation and above. Hope we get one of the Japanese pitchers and the cuban lefty reliever looks good as well.

  2. We have heard the rhetoric so many times before and Friedman is always a day late and a nicks short …

  3. I know that people will hate me for this, but I think Ohtani is an expensive gamble. First, we already have two maybe three hurt starters that are an uncertainty if and how they will come back. There is no guarantee He will be the same when or if he comes back to pitch. And for the money everyone says he will be getting, we could get two quality starters, maybe a couple of other key players. He won’t be any good to us for year or more. If you are going to start talking about his hitting in the mean time, do you really believe that he will properly heal when he is swinging his arms like that? He has been hurt twice now. What guarantees do you have that he won’t have the same problem in a year or more. Let someone else take the gamble, and let’s be more wise with the money. Yes the Dodgers will be ridiculed if they don’t go after him. But I hope they go after a couple of starters what can help us now! Not maybe in a year or so.
Ps. We have a few young kids that have shown promise. Even though one was only in double A, I think if given the chance to grow to get use to the pressures on the mound, they could be our future.
Ok, you can start to throw your stones now.

    1. Getting Ohtani will significantly help the Dodgers over the next 5 to 7 years. However, even with Ohtani they won’t advance too far in the post season without having two stud starters in their pitching rotation.

    2. I totally agree with you. Nowhere on the list of needs is a left handed DH. If he is eilling to sign an incentive contract then OK.

    3. I completely agree with you. Don’t want Ohtani. Would rather have Blake Snell and 1 more front line starter.

    4. Yeah I agree with you. A half a billion dollars is a lot for an injury prone player. I don’t think that he’ll be the same pitcher or hitter after his surgery. ?

  4. I totally agree with you. Nowhere on the list of needs is a left handed DH. If he is willing to sign an incentive contract then OK.
