Dansby Swanson Rumors: Free Agent Shortstop Could Reunite With Dodgers First Baseman

Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen, the MLB is having its annual Winter Meetings in San Diego this week, and many things can happen during or after the meetings transpire.

All top shortstops remain free agents, and even though teams have emerged as favorites for each player, nothing is set in stone.

One of those top free-agent shortstops on the market is Atlanta Braves Dansby Swanson.

According to the Athletic, if the Braves can’t work out a deal for Swanson, don’t rule out the Dodgers as a possibility for the Georgia native.

“The only questions, then, are where Swanson will land, and for how much. The Braves are his hometown team, the team that acquired him while he was still in the minors, his first choice. Swanson is represented by Excel Sports Management, the same agency Freddie Freeman used when he went through his messy breakup with the Braves. The difference is, Swanson is more emotionally prepared to leave Atlanta, if necessary.”

“So, let’s play this out. Let’s say the Braves decline to meet Swanson’s price, while Correa signs with the Giants, Turner the Phillies, Bogaerts the Red Sox. At minimum, the Cubs and Twins would be in play for Swanson. The Dodgers could seek to reunite him with Freeman on a shorter deal. Perry Minasian, previously with the Braves, could pursue him for the Angels. Other teams also might emerge.”

A Dansby-Freddie reunion in L.A. would be great to see for Dodger fans. They were teammates in Atlanta for six seasons and won their first championship together in 2021.

Not only that, but Freddie’s son, Charlie, would be happy to see Swanson at Chavez Ravine again, but this time for good.

Swanson had a tremendous 2022 season. He earned his first-ever All-Star selection as he slashed .277/.329/.447 with a .776 OPS while hitting 25 home runs and a career-high 96 RBIs.

I don’t believe the same situation will happen to Dansby compared to Freeman’s fallout with the agency. If Swanson were to leave Atlanta, it would be because he wants to find a new home, not because of a miscommunication between the team and the players’ agency.

Swanson realizes that, and I will assume Excel Sports Management learned from its mistake with Freddie.

Last season, Freddie broke things off between him and Excel Sports Management as he announced he would be self-represented. There was speculation that Freeman made the decision because of miscommunication between the Braves, his agency, and himself during his free agency talks.

Things could happen fast in the sports world, and you could never count out the Dodgers when acquiring big-name free agents.

We’ll keep a close eye on Swanson’s free agency status.

Would you like to see Dansby in Dodger blue, Dodger fans?

  1. Swanson would be my last choice among the four names. I would just as soon see Lux at short and Verlander signed along with another starter or big time reliever. Let’s see if Outman or Vargas is ready for a regular role. A Martinez DH bat would be a big upgrade

  2. I think Mookie would hold some sway with Boegarts as well. Either one would be great. Swansby is the best defender of the 4. Then we just leave a .280 hitter in the 9 hole. Leaving SP, 3B? Vargas platoon with JT and Muncy, and a CF platoon with Thompson and Outman. Closer is all we have left. That about wraps it up. Ger er done Friedman.

  3. Why even think about any big name free agent or by trade coming to our Dodgers when we all know Freidman mostly gets
hasbeens or disabled players because he don’t care about us fans or our guys in blue. Remember he will not fire his best man Roberts & as long as they are both with our Dodgers no matter what big name we get if any that we will still go nowhere but down. And our so called owners don’t care about us fans either since they still keep Freidman & Roberts. 1st FIRE both Freidman & Roberts then start from there. Then sign Judge & trade for Reynolds & Lopez. Sign Bogaerts & then put Lux at 3rd to see if he can handle it over spring training. Then put Outman in left & use Vargas as splits with Outman & Lux. Then try them as DH to see who handles their positions better. Now you have Betts at 2nd. Damn what a dream lineup that would be. VERY DANGEROUS. Then now you go get another pitcher & a couple relief pitchers and get a great closer. And you know they can afford it & with a new manager we will win it all. WHAT A DREAM THAT WOULD BE.

  4. Our minor league system is Gucci! We develop well but we need another ace and closer (a good one this time). And one more thing…..if mlb okays it, bring back Trevor! That being said I’d co-sign on Swanson.

  5. Reunite Swanson with Freeman . Best deal available right now. If pitching injuries heal well, Dodgers ready for a deep run. Only question is managerial abilities.

  6. After hearing the bummer news of Trea is gone today, the comments on this post made me LOL all the way to sorrow. Dan O’Dowd on MLB called Trea an aircraft carrier that Is a difference maker…his WAR numbers in 6 yrs.will make the contract worth it’s value. I don’t know how but it sounded good for the Phillies. BTW, they have an awesome lineup when Harper comes back.
