Dave Roberts Praises Angels for Honoring Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani in Return to Anaheim
Dodgers’ two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani made his return to Anaheim on Tuesday for the first time since leaving the Angels this offseason and he was greeted very well. The Angels honored him with a video reception and a pause in the middle of the game before his first at-bat.
Ohtani spent six seasons with the Angels, helping them maintain some sense of relevancy during his tenure. While the team never reached the postseason, Ohtani gave the fans and organization some of their best moments in history.
He won two MVP awards during his time with the team and they allowed him to grow as a two-way player in the game. It was a good match while it lasted, but the desire to win forced Ohtani to head to the Dodgers.
Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts praised the Angels organization for their treatment of their former star player after the game.
“It was great. I don’t think Shohei got the memo that they were gonna do something for him. But the Angels, they’re a first class organization, did it right. Shohei did a lot for this organization. So, to give him a nice little something I think that was great. Well done by them.”
The Angels got the better of the matchup on Tuesday, defeating the Dodgers by a score of 4-3 in the final exhibition game. Ohtani will be back in Anaheim for a two-game regular season series on September 3 and 4. The atmosphere will likely be more hostile since the game means something, but he should be cheered by the Halos’ faithful nonetheless.
