Dave Roberts Says Dodgers Dodged a Bullet With Injury to Blake Treinen
Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen got struck by a comebacker over the weekend, and was forced to exit the Dodgers’ spring training game early.
The injury didn’t look good in the moment, but fortunately, Treinen came out mostly unscathed.
Treinen underwent x-rays which showed no fractures in his rib. He does have a bruised lung, but he could still be ready for Korea, per manager Dave Roberts.
“He didn’t dodge a baseball,” Roberts said, “but we dodged a bullet.”
This is great news for both Treinen and the Dodgers. Treinen was hoping to finally make an impact on the Dodgers’ bullpen after being sidelined all of 2023 and most of 2022.
Treinen felt that he owed it to the Dodgers to pitch in 2024 and finally live up to his contract, so fortunately, this fluke accident in spring training isn’t expected to hurt his chances.
Treinen has been sharp in Cactus League play thus far, having thrown 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two.
Assuming he feels good, he should factor into the Dodgers’ bullpen for one of the two games in Korea.
