JD Martinez Rumors: Another Suitor Has Emerged in Sweepstakes for Dodgers Free Agent

J.D. Martinez is coming off a 2023 season with the Dodgers in which he slashed .271/.321/.572 with 33 home runs, 27 doubles and 103 runs batted in.

He was named an All-Star for the sixth time in his career, and was one of the best and most consistent hitters in a historically great Dodgers offense.

However, with the MLB regular season kicking off in just over a week in Korea, Martinez remains a free agent.

Both the Dodgers and Martinez likely would have loved a reunion this offseason, but that door was closed once the Dodgers signed Shohei Ohtani to be their full-time designated hitter.

However, there are plenty of teams who could use Martinez’s bat — and yet, he remains a free agent.

Over the weekend, it was reported that the Miami Marlins were engaged in discussions with agent Scott Boras regarding Martinez. And on Tuesday, it appears a new team has entered the mix.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported the New York Mets are interested in Martinez, and the interest is “mutual.”

“The Mets are among teams talking to star free agent DH J.D. Martinez, and word is the interest is mutual, sources tell The Post.”

Martinez reportedly rejected a contract offer from the San Francisco Giants this offseason, so it’s clear that where he plays is important to him.

The Mets could be an option, as are the Los Angeles Angels, per reports.

With spring training coming to a close soon, it would make sense for Martinez to find a new home sooner rather than later so he can get ready for the start of the season.

On the brighter side of things, Martinez made a very exciting announcement over the weekend on social media.
