Dodgers Game Updates vs White Sox: Michael Grove Against Dylan Cease, JD Martinez Out of Lineup

The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting set for the rubber match of the three-game series against the Chicago White Sox. The Dodgers dropped the second game of the series in embarrassing fashion, allowing six runs in the last two innings in an eventual 8-4 loss.

The Dodgers will look to get back on track and take the series on Thursday, with RHP Michael Grove taking the mound. He’ll be going up against last year’s runner up in the AL Cy Young race, RHP Dylan Cease (but more on them later).

Here’s a look at the lineup Dave Roberts is sending out against the right-hander.

J.D. Martinez is getting the day off, so Jason Heyward is in there as the designated hitter. With Max Muncy still sidelined with his “not Grade 2 hamstring strain,” Chris Taylor is in at third base.

Pitching Matchup

Michael Grove struggled in his last outing against the Phillies, and has now allowed four earned runs in both of his starts since coming off the injured list. Grove has made seven career starts at Dodger Stadium (and eight appearances), sporting a 4.98 ERA in 34.1 innings.

As for Cease, he’s had a down year coming off the best season of his career in 2022. However, he’s been better as of late, allowing just two total earned runs over his last two starts (11.1 innings). He’s made one career start against the Dodgers on June 9 of last year, allowing six runs (zero of them earned runs) in 4.2 innings.
