Dodgers: Jimmy Nelson Starts the Bullpen Game Tonight in Los Angeles

The Dodgers will once again go with a bullpen game tonight in Los Angeles. As they continue to roll with just 4 guys in their starting rotation, it should be expected for the foreseeable future. At least until Tony Gonsolin is able to return.

Trevor Bauer was originally supposed to go for the Dodgers on Thursday night. It lined up with his normal rest, but Dave Roberts changed up the approach. Bauer will instead start Friday night against the first-place Giants in San Francisco.

Tonight, the Dodgers will go with Jimmy Nelson again to open the game. Nelson started the last bullpen game on Sunday against the Marlins. He went 1.2 innings in that game and was not charged with a run. Nelson punched out 3 batters and walked 2 in that outing.

It was also Nelson’s first time starting a big league game since 2019 with Milwaukee. The Dodgers picked him up as a guy hat could pitch in and out of the rotation. That’s proving to be very useful in an injury-plagued 2021 season.

The Dodgers have a number of guys that can go behind Nelson on Thursday. David Price pitched on Tuesday night, so he is expected to be one of the arms that follows up Nelson.
