Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Gives Hilarious Advice to Shohei Ohtani
The Los Angeles Dodgers are an extremely talented team, but owe much of their success to the chemistry in the clubhouse.
There is no greater sign of friendship than when players give each other advice outside of their craft, which most recently transpired for Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani. Betts gave the NL MVP a parenting tip.
“He should get his sleep now,” Betts told the AP, speaking Tuesday in Tokyo. “Because when the baby comes he won’t get any.”
Just a few days after Christmas, Ohtani announced on social media that he and his wife, Mamiko, are expecting their first child.
“Can’t wait for the little rookie to join our family soon!” the Instagram caption said.

While Ohtani has reached new heights in his first season with the Dodgers, he faces perhaps his greatest challenge yet: being a father. Being a parent is by far the most rewarding job in the world, but also the hardest.
Ohtani is coming off one of the greatest seasons in the history of baseball. He set career-highs in home runs, hits, runs scored, runs batted in, doubles, and stolen bases. Ohtani invented the 50 home runs, 50 stolen bases club after he finished the season with 54 homers and 59 stolen bases.
In his first trip to the postseason, Ohtani won his first World Series ring. He also capped off his first season in a Dodgers uniform in the best way possible—unanimously winning the NL MVP award. Ohtani became the first exclusive designated hitter to win the accolade and earned his third MVP award of his career.
Ohtani has already taken down America’s baseball team, the New York Yankees, in the World Series, but he will now have to wrestle sleepless nights and a crying babe in this new season for his family.
Nevertheless, 2024 will forever be remembered as one of the greatest years for Ohtani, both professionally and personally.
