Dodgers News: Bobby Miller is Ready to Face D-Backs for the Third Time in Career in a Whole New Setting

For the first time in his short career, Dodgers rookie Bobby Miller will step on the mound in the postseason Monday as the Dodgers seek to avoid traveling to Arizona facing a 2-0 deficit.

Miller, who finished the regular season with a 3.76 ERA and an 11-4 record as a starter, has faced the Diamondbacks twice before. Holding Arizona to a .239 batting average, Miller has allowed four earned runs and 11 hits in 12 innings in two wins over the Diamondbacks.

“I have a lot of confidence out there going against these guys. I faced them twice already. They got to me a little more the second time against them. But I’ll do my best not to let it happen a third time.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts named Miller a playoff starter nearly a month ago, meaning Miller has had time to figure out his approach to the mental hurdle that can be making one’s postseason debut. With nine quality starts and pitching the most innings on the active roster other than Clayton Kershaw, Miller has been preparing for the start since his big league debut in late May.

“It’s an honor to have the trust by the coaches and the teammates to put me out there in Game,” Miller said. “I feel ready to go. … I’m excited for Monday and just treating it like another game. I want to win every time I’m out there anyway.”

Miller will take on NL Cy Young hopeful Zac Gallen, Monday at 6:07 p.m. PDT.

One Comment

  1. Miller will cruise. The park is the same size for both teams, so is the ball. Overall his teammates are better hitters and scorers, so what’s to worry about? Kershaw will win the decider.
