Dodgers News: Brandon Gomes Impressed With Ryan Brasier’s Motivation to Get Better

In yet another successful story from the Dodgers’ pitcher reclamation project, Ryan Brasier’s presence in the team’s bullpen has been invaluable for Dave Roberts’ roster.

Cut loose from the Red Sox earlier in the season, the righty’s humble attitude before officially joining the team perfectly describes his effectiveness for LA, according to his GM Brandon Gomes.

“To Ryan’s credit, this is a guy who had pitched in the World Series, had a very good career, and he said ‘I’ll go to Arizona and work, make these adjustments.’ It speaks to his will to win, his compete,” Gomes said.

Though Gomes and Andrew Friedman picked up multiple veterans at the trade deadline, Brasier’s introduction as a reliever option for the roster is likely the best move the team’s made all season.

Exiting Boston with a paltry 7.29 ERA, the veteran now sports a 3.12 mark on the year thanks to his work for LA’s bullpen in high leverage.

Tossing nearly 37 innings for his new team, Brasier’s ERA in Los Angeles now sits at a 0.74 figure, a testament to both player and pitching coach Mark Prior’s help to address whatever went wrong at Fenway.

Set for a significant role in October, Brasier took advantage of his new employer back in 2018 after he won the World Series with the Red Sox over Roberts and the Dodgers five years prior.

Now 36, Brasier is arguably pitching his best season since that World Series campaign and will now hopefully contribute to another ring for the Dodgers in just a few weeks.

Chavez Ravine has been quite friendly to the veteran since he’s joined the team, a destination Brasier surely wants to bring a championship to.

The Dodgers faithful watched in agony as Boston celebrated on their own field to commemorate their 2018 championship, but with Brasier now on their side, they’ll hope the result is much different to end 2023.
