Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Situation ‘Not Ideal’ to Dave Roberts

Knowing that their postseason chances will only go as far as their pitching will take them, the Dodgers face many questions in their rotation without much time to solve them before October.

Among these questions is the health of their veteran leader Clayton Kershaw’s shoulder, a situation that LA manager Dave Roberts wished was better.

“It’s not ideal for him. But we’re going to make the most of it…. The hope is he’s going to continue to feel better. But given where he’s at physically, it’s hard to say that’s going to happen.”

Clearly struggling with both his command and velocity, Kershaw’s most recent start against the Marlins was far from the norm that many fans and those in the Dodgers organization are used to.

The lefty gave up ten baserunners in a gritty five innings of work, giving up just three runs on two homers, but clearly not looking like the southpaw dominator he’s been for the entirety of his career.

Though Kershaw himself indicated that he’d continue pitching through his aching shoulder, it’s clear that he’s not at 100% for yet another season.

Unable to complete a full season without injury in the past few years, it’s been frustrating to see that the legend continues to break down at the worst possible times.

Already without Dustin May, Walker Buehler, Tony Gonsolin and Julio Urias due to various injuries and off the field issues, Kershaw’s health becomes all the more important in the lead up to the postseason.

Knowing one of their best remaining starting arms isn’t at full strength could prove disastrous for LA’s championship hopes, but the 35-year-old will continue his regular starts as the regular season winds down and the playoffs approach.

If Chavez Ravine wants to see another championship under this current core, the Dodgers will need their best foot forward, meaning Kershaw may have to grit it out to dig deep and possibly end his career as a champion.
