Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Provides Update on Clayton Kershaw
The Dodgers starting rotation has been a revolving door all season long due to injuries and inconsistent play. This seems to be no different as the team heads into the All-Star break despite the fact that LA has been playing better of late. Manager Dave Roberts said that Julio Urias will start in the first game back for the Dodgers against the New York Mets in Citi Field but that everything else was up in the air right now.
This includes the status of injured star pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Roberts provided an update on the left-handed and when we will see him back on the mound again.
“I think every day has been better,” Roberts said of Kershaw, who has not pitched since June 27 in Colorado due to a sore shoulder. “From what I saw (in Kershaw’s flat-ground throwing session), it looks good. And he’ll just take his break. And we’ll see what we do from there.”
Per The OC Register
This seems to be in line to what we already knew about Kershaw as it was said that he likely wouldn’t be out too long after the All-Star break. But it is good news that Roberts is saying that Kershaw looked good during his throwing session.
He also added that Kershaw would likely need to throw at least one bullpen session to test his injured shoulder as he gets ready to return. But Kershaw may not need to throw to live hitters which is again, good news.
Before his injury, Kershaw was in the midst of one of his better years in a long time. He was the most reliable pitcher for the Dodgers this season so getting him back as soon as possible would be huge for this team. On the season, he holds an ERA of 2.55 with a record of 10-4. He has struck out 105 batters in 95.1 innings as well.
Hopefully the extra time off allows him to heal even faster. The Dodgers need their ace back in the rotation if they want to make any noise this season. But it’s also smart to be cautious with him due to his previous injury history.
Hopefully we can see Kershaw back out there sooner rather than later but for now, the team will enjoy the All-Star break and then come back looking to gear up for a potential postseason run.
